People that think they know everything. That’s what grinds my gears. I’m sitting here, in the middle of the night, reading all of the insane things people are posting about the Xbox One. Now I would just like to start off by saying that I’m not a fan of a lot of the things that Microsoft has chosen to do with the X1. I think they should be focusing on games primarily, and then add the whole “entertainment console” thing afterwards, instead of the other way around.
But the difference between me and what seems to be everyone else? I DON’T ACT LIKE THE CONSOLE IS COMING OUT TOMORROW. These people are acting like Microsoft has already announced every bit of information about the Xbox One when there’s still a HUGE amount of questions to be answered. Practically every next-gen console has been released in November, so if they follow the same pattern, we have a good 6 months to go before it’s released! That’s a huge amount of time. I just don’t understand the logic of deciding whether or not the X1 is the console to buy or not. How about we actually wait to hear Microsoft’s official response to all of these questions? Which of course would be at E3 if anywhere at all.
And another thing… If you don’t like a console, then DON’T BUY IT. It’s as simple as that. People seem to think that whether or not they buy a console, a game developer or console manufacturer will continue to thrive. I would call those people idiots. Game companies wouldn’t exist if people didn’t give them money. So if you dislike the Xbox, then DON’T BUY IT.
I can totally see where some of the complaints are coming from… Backwards compatibility, for instance, is a very popular demand for gamers. The issue with that? They have no idea why the console can’t be backwards compatible, even though there is a perfectly good reason. The reason? The architecture is completely different than the previous console! If you know anything about computers, then you will understand that the Xbox 360 is based on Power PC architecture while the Xbox One is based on X86 architecture. Ever try to run a Power PC application on a new computer? It won’t work. Try it. Oh and guess what else has different architecture? The PS4. Neither of them will be natively backwards compatible.
I just get so upset when people don’t really comprehend what the hell they’re talking about. Another problem is with the used games fee. The vice president of Microsoft made a statement saying there should be no problem taking your disc over to a friend’s house. But of course no one payed attention to that. Also, has anyone looked into where the fee goes? IT PAYS THE ORIGINAL DEVELOPERS. As far as I’ve read, the fee is to pay back the developers who, before, were getting absolutely no gains from used game sales. Places like Gamestop were taking HUGE profits away from developers, so this is their way of making sure they’re properly payed. If this is really the case I have absolutely no problem with it.
It just pisses me off when people go off the rails over issues that they haven’t even begun to understand. It really does grind my gears. And to be clear, I’m not defending Microsoft. I think they’ve done a pretty terrible job at communicating all of this information. I just want to provide people with some rationality and give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt. Anyways, I just needed to get that off my chest… If you have something to say feel free to post it below.
Now it’s time for me to go to bed…
