Now that I have this blog, I’ve been following more and more individuals from gaming industries on various social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and I’m really glad I have. It’s truly amazing to think of how communication has advanced. I can now personally contact my favorite game developers and have them immediately message me back with their response. I’ve already talked to multiple people involved in the games industry, and without these sites, I doubt I ever would have been able to. This type of communication, although it leads to a lot of trolling and flame wars, has helped a lot of businesses improve. There is no better way to get immediate feedback on a product/issue. I just felt like I’d pass this thought along, because if you’ve ever had a problem with a game or just wanted to contact a developer to tell them how good of a job they did, I recommend going for it. Send them a message and tell them how you feel. They might not always message you back, but at least you have a chance, and if they do, it’s such a gratifying feeling. It feels like you’ve personally made a difference (depending on what you said, of course), and at least for me, that feels really good. If you’d like a couple names of individuals to follow within the gaming industry, check out my Twitter because I’m basically only following people who are involved with games.
I’ve played ME3 some more, so I thought I’d add some more to this review. If you’ve already read what I have so far, just skip to the bottom and you’ll see what I’ve added.
Mass Effect 3 is finally here!!! I really do hope that everyone is going out and buying this game because it is SO incredible. I’ve only played it for a day now, but I’m definitely hooked already. If you’re still curious about what the whole game is about, I’ll give a quick synopsis. The main character in Mass Effect is Commander Shepard. You can choose to make Shepard a male or female, and fully customize his/her appearance. Without going too deep into the past games, Shepard is basically a hero who has saved the universe several times from oncoming threats (the typical kind of hero story one would find in any sort of video game of this magnitude). In the third game, Shepard must save everyone from the biggest threat they have ever seen: the reapers. The reapers are an incredibly powerful race of beings, whose powers cannot be matched by any other living creature (as far as we know). They are not simply biological creatures, but rather something greater. As discovered in Mass Effect 2, (*SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t played the other games!!!) these reapers come about every 50,000 years and wipe out all living organisms. They kill all powerful civilizations and then have all of the others start from scratch (This whole concept vaguely reminded me of the end of The Matrix, where Neo finds out that there are many cycles of life, and he is just one of many. He then goes on to try and change his fate, just like Shepard does). However, humanity has never known about any of this until Commander Shepard found traces of a previous civilization, known as the Protheans. He now uses their knowledge in an attempt to discover a way to defeat the reapers, instead of having humanity die once again.
Well if you haven’t heard the news yet, Halo 4 is coming and it’s being released a lot sooner than you’d think. I would have thought that it possibly could have been a release title on the next Xbox console, but I guess not. It is currently scheduled to be released toward the end of this year. I usually wouldn’t be very excited for a Halo game anymore, because I’ve been getting bored of them, but I’m actually quite intrigued by this one. I just watched a video that 343 Industries made (The new company behind Halo, since Bungie isn’t working on it anymore), and they described the difference between this Halo and the older ones. The one factor that really caught my attention was the fact that they are focusing more on Master Chief as a character, rather than just saving the world. They are going into his back story , because the only sources that have done this as of right now are the novels and comics based on the franchise. I have personally read many of the Halo novels, and Master Chief’s story is actually quite fantastic. So if you’re interested at all about Halo, I would watch the news feed of any and all gaming sources you may follow. I’m sure a lot of news will be released in the near future (with the most probably being announced during E3 in the summer). OXM has also interviewed Frank O’Connor of 343 Industries about Halo 4’s multiplayer, and I highly recommend you check it out. Well that’s all I have right now. If anyone else has an opinion on the latest Halo news, feel free to comment below!
Also, if you’re not interested in Halo, Mass Effect 3 is also coming out tomorrow! As I’ve stated before, I highly recommend that everyone check it out, because it really is a fantastic series.
I am a huge Call of Duty fan. Always have been, and I’m sure I always will be. However, I’ve found myself playing COD less and less. There’s something about it that isn’t catching my attention like it used to. I used to play it all the time, and I’m still even in a clan (not a very serious one, but a clan nonetheless). I feel as if there isn’t anything new in the games that has caught my attention, even though they’ve added plenty of new content in every installment of the COD franchise. It reminds me of what Halo used to be for me. I used to play Halo 2 all the time. It was my favorite game on Xbox and it will still be one of my favorite games of all time. However, as the new Halo games came out, I began to lose interest. It’s not that the games were getting much worse, but it was simply because of the fact that they didn’t have the same vibe that Halo 2 had. The same is happening for COD. I just don’t get the same gratifying experience when I play anymore. One reason might be because of the fact that the community is getting worse and worse after every new release. It’s nearly impossible to get into a lobby where I don’t have to immediately mute half of the players. I just don’t see the fun in that. Anyways, I just wonder if anyone else feels the same way I do. If you have any comments, just post them below!
Is there a game coming out in the near future that you just can’t wait to play? Would you like to get your mind off of it until it comes out? Or would you even just like to play an incredibly awesome arcade game that will literally keep you hooked for hours on end? If so, then I highly recommend you pick up Trials HD. It’s not new, but it sure is good. With the sequel coming out some time in the future (there was a release date, but then the developer pulled it down, so we don’t really know when it’s coming out), this would be a great time to see what the hype is all about. Trials HD is a side-scrolling motorcycle game, where time and precision are the key factors to completing each level. For any old-school gamers, this is basically a new-age version of Excitebike. It can get extremely difficult at times, but it is extremely satisfying after each and every level is completed. And once you beat the main courses, don’t think that the game’s over. The game then unlocks harder challenges, and there are also a lot of crazy mini games to play. This was one of my all-time favorite XBLA games, and I would recommend it to any gamer out there, no matter what skill level they are.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (also known as E3) is coming soon, and I am extremely excited. What’s E3, you ask? Well, in most gamers’ eyes, it is the center for the biggest and baddest (in a good way) games of the near future. It is a 3 day event at the LA Convention Center where game developers get together and show off their upcoming releases and/or hardware. There’s tons of booths where journalists can go and play early-stage versions of the hottest upcoming games in order to write previews for their respective companies. The only unfortunate thing about E3 is that regular gamers are not allowed to attend the event. It is only for developers and game-related organizations, in order for them to figure out where the current industry stands, and get a glimpse at what there is to come in the near future. Now this does not mean that regular gamers are never able to know what goes on during the show. In fact, that’s the complete opposite. Continue reading
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to make a post for a few days, but I’m finally free to make some posts. Also, check out the new Facebook design! (I think it’s pretty cool, personally) Make sure to like the page, and follow me on Twitter and Google+ as well in order to get the latest news when I’m unable to make posts on here.
Anyways, I wanted to let you know about a piece of news that was recently announced. If you’ve ever played Assassin’s Creed, you know the extremely original story, and now, it has become even better. After all, the environments in the previous games, in my opinion, have started to get old. That’s why Ubisoft has thrown a complete new twist on the game’s story, and they’ve announced it by releasing the game’s cover art. The newest Assassin’s Creed game will be during the Revolutionary War!Characters in the picture can be seen dressed in traditional Revolutionary-War style clothing, while wielding that same era’s weapons as well. Lastly, you can see the American flag in the background, which has the Revolutionary-style design on it. Personally, I think this is an awesome twist to the story. It will bring all new weapons into the mix, and I’m sure it will have a completely different play-style as well. This is really all they’ve officially announced so far, but GameInformer stated that they will have a huge 13-page cover story on it very soon. As of right now, Gameinformer has some extra pictures on their site, but they’ll add more after the article is released. I will definitely be following this story, and if anything else come’s up, I’ll make sure to post about it. If I’ve missed any news, feel free to comment below!
